Kiss Tip #4

Apply some type of eyeshadow primer on your lid before applying eyeshadow… here’s why:

Eyeshadow primer is a cosmetic that is used to coat the eyelids prior to the application of eyeshadow so that the eyeshadow can be applied in a smooth, even layer and so that the eyeshadow will stay in place on the eyelid. Some people find that creases appear in their eyeshadow during the day. These creases are the result of movements of the eyelid that are the result of simply blinking and normal eye movements. Eyeshadow primer works to keep these creases from appearing and can also help to boost the vibrancy of the eyeshadow color.

Most kinds of eyeshadow primer comes in either a tube or small tub and are applied either with a brush or with a wand with a soft end. A concealor brush can be used to apply eyeshadow primer. The kind of wand that is used to apply the cosmetic is very similar to the kinds of wands that are used to apply lip gloss. Although there are slight variations in the colors of eyeshadow primer, most of them come in shades that blend in with most skin tones. This is because the purpose of eyeshadow primer is not to accent the eyelids with color, but to prepare the eyelids for eyeshadow that will serve that purpose.

What moisturizer would I recommend for dry skin??? I want to make one thing clear, you have to figure out what works best for you! Another great question!!!

Should I use Primer even if I have extremely dry skin?

yes you should, just do your homework when selecting your primer… They have Primers for dry skin, those are the ones you should get…

I was also asked: I use Primer but at the end of the day my face is still oily and messy, how do I fix it???

Try this:

Products for Preparing Oily Skin for Makeup

When cleansing, use an oil-based cleanser since it will help dissolve oil better. Do not use harsh cleaners that leave the skin feeling tight. This tightness will restrict oil flow and lead to clogged pores later. Also, massage the face when cleansing to avoid pushing dirt and oil into the pores. Scrubbing will clog the pores. Rinse with warm water to help dissolve oil. Use a mud or clay mask one or two times a week.

Read labels. Look for products that are for oily skin. Avoid products that contain alcohol since alcohol dries the skin. Petroleum based products such as mineral oil   contain too much oil and can further clog pores. Use astringents containing acetone. Acetone dissolves oil better.   Moisturizers need to be oil-free. You may only need to moisturize certain areas such as around the eyes. Mature skin will need to moisturize the entire face.

Makeup for Oily Skin

Read labels. There are some items that should be avoided and some items that you should look for in makeup for oily skin.   There are certain makeup companies that are known for their work in designing products for specific skin types. I recommend MAC cosmetics and Clinique, but there a many others….

Try and Avoid

  1. Avoid products containing oil from petroleum. This includes mineral oil. Use oil-free makeup or makeup that is intended to benefit oily skin.

  2. Avoid makeup that contains alcohol. Alcohol will strip the skin of oil, which may cause the body to produce even more.

  3. Look for ingredients such as bismuth oxychloride and dimenthicone. Both can clog pores and may cause blemishes. These are commonly found in foundation or powder based products.

Foundation that may be beneficial

  1. Find foundations that contain titanium dioxide, a naturally occurring sun protector.

  2. Makeup for oily skin should contain serecite to reduce the appearance of pores and help absorb oil.

  3. Kaolin clay added in foundation will help oil control.

  4. Zinc oxide used in makeup will act as an anti-inflammatory.

Where to buy primer...

You can purchase primer from a numerous places, but it is important to get a quality primer…  One of my favs is Prep+Prime skin base by MAC cosmetics, you can go on the websites to find the location near you… you can find a primer in most cosmetics line (even the cheaper ones), one place I would go first is to a cosmetic counter and asked them about their primers and they can show and help you (can give you samples to see if you like it)… Walmart also has primer in Revlon and mabeline brands… Another place is Ulta that is one of my fav places to shop, they have from the highest price products to the lowest price products… I hope this helps…

I was asked a very good question… What is primer? Well here ya go… and I don’t think it’s a dumb question at all!!!

  • Although the smoothing is temporary, it can last throughout the day. A makeup primer most likely contains waxes, polymers, and silicones. These substances can form a bond with other cosmetics, causing the cosmetics to have more longevity than they would otherwise.
  • Makeup bases often work well on oily skin, which tends to cause makeup to rub off during the day. The primer will help to prevent the skin from becoming oily. Some makeup primers are designed to moisturize and soften the skin, which may be a good choice for those with dry skin.
